Setting up all access subscriptions for digital content

This article explains how to set up the integration between Sky Pilot and your subscription app so that digital content is delivered correctly based on subscription plans and tags.

Important: You must be on the Growth plan in Sky Pilot. This setup is not supported on the Free plan.

1. Install necessary apps

  • Install your subscription app.
  • Install Sky Pilot and ensure you are on the Growth plan.

2. Configure your subscription app

  • Set up your subscription plans with all required options (billing cycles, discounts, etc.).
  • Add products to the subscription plans — this can be one plan or multiple plans.
  • Place the subscription widget on your product pages so customers can purchase subscriptions.
  • Final step: Add a customer tag to each subscription plan. If you have one subscription plan, there will be one tag. If you have multiple subscription plans, each plan must have a separate tag.

3. Add tags in Sky Pilot

  • Go to Settings > Tags, Subscriptions, and Watermarking in Sky Pilot.
  • Each subscription plan you created will be listed. If you have one plan, you will see one entry. If you have multiple plans, you will see each one listed separately.
  • Add the same tag(s) you configured in your subscription app to the corresponding subscription plan(s) in Sky Pilot.

Sky Pilot uses these tags to know which customers are active subscribers and which files they should receive.

4. Attach files to subscription products in Sky Pilot

  • Go to the Products page in Sky Pilot.
  • If you have one subscription plan/product, attach files to that single product. If you have multiple subscription plans/products, attach files to each corresponding product.

Customers will receive files based on their tag. For example, a customer who subscribes to Product A and has Tag 1 will only receive files assigned to that subscription product.

5. Verify the workflow

  • Test purchasing a subscription in your store.
  • On the “Thank You” page, the customer should see a link to access their subscription content.
  • They will also receive an email with the same link.

Each billing cycle is treated as a new order. Any per-order settings, like download limits, expiration dates, or IP access alerts, will reset with each new cycle.

6. Summary and recommendations

  • Tags are mandatory. Each subscription plan must have a tag.
  • Sky Pilot uses tags to grant access and deliver files.
  • Files delivered to a customer depend entirely on what you attached to the subscription product in Sky Pilot.

Example:

Subscription Plan 1 → Product A → Tag 1 → 20 files
Subscription Plan 2 → Product B → Tag 2 → 50 files

A customer who checks out with Tag 1 will receive only the files assigned to that product.

Professional recommendation: If any of this is unclear, please get help from a developer or someone familiar with Shopify subscriptions and digital products. Sky Pilot handles file delivery, but linking subscription plans, tags, and products requires proper setup across multiple apps.
